Jiju M. Haneef: Bin Yousef Cargo headquartered in Doha, Qatar is a full-spectrum global third-party logistics provider (3PL), that has been empowering businesses and fostering growth both in the middle-east and around the world, through a strong network of agents and partners for over 35 years. From our inception the focus has always been to deliver unmatchable quality, best-in-class operational support, reducing downtime as well as overheads, by identifying and leveraging cost-saving opportunities, resulting in effective end-to-end supply chain management and facilitating international trade.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about your core-competitiveness?

Jiju M. Haneef: Our core competency emanates from the decades of experience of having provided highly bespoke logistics solutions to organizations of all sizes i.e. from MNCs to SMEs, as well as international suppliers and brands. We have a well-established long-standing robust network across 180 countries. JCtrans: What do you think is the most important thing to run a logistics company?

Jiju M. Haneef: Efficient logistics is all in the planning. Always make sure to plan well ahead in order to eliminate any delays in the freight forwarding/ supply chain as best they can. It is also important to have contingencies for every element of our logistics plan. One should also know when to stick it out with their original plan and when to switch to backup – I believe it’s something that can only come with experience.

Investments in technology, transportation and personnel to manage complete logistics process, will enables one to focus on their core business activity. Ensuring your business is better informed by using fleet and inventory management software will allow you to refine your processes around the factors that impact your bottom line the most.

Depending on the size of a company, poor logistics management can cost them a lot. Perhaps the most important thing one can do when optimising their business model is to learn from their mistakes. Regularly sit down as a team and openly discuss the mistakes that have made in the past, focusing on what systems they are going to put in place to ensure they don’t happen again.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about the situation of logistic industry in your country?

Jiju M. Haneef: Qatar is located at the heart of the Gulf at the intersection of three continents, and with access to 60% of the world’s population within eight hours fly time. The freight and logistics market in Qatar has been growing steadily and with the continued expansion of our air and sea ports, the nation is positioning itself to be a regional connectivity leader. Currently, the market is estimated to be valued at more than $7.5 billion and is forecasted to register a CAGR of more than 7% from 2019 to 2024.

The trade, logistics and export clusters in our Free Zones are focused on warehousing & 3PL, e-commerce solutions, high-value items storage, fulfillment & distribution centers, an automotive zone, and export-processing and re-export.

The logistics market in Qatar has been growing steadily over the past five years. The growth of the market can be attributed to the new expansion plans as the country is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the ambitious plans of the Qatari government to develop the country into a new logistical and regional center, and the country being one of the largest LNG suppliers in the world have supported the growth of the logistics market in the country. The geographical location of the country, encouraging investment laws, and stable exchange rate has also contributed to the sector’s growth.

Leading Infrastructure and Connectivity Across Air and Sea Plays Boosting the Growth of Logistics. Qatar has one of the largest commercial ports in the world and the largest airport in the Middle East. The country is developing Doha Port as Qatar’s gateway to marine tourism. Qatar is also expanding the port of Ruwais to serve as Qatar’s northern maritime gateway. Moreover, ongoing highways and corridors development increase connectivity. Hamad International Airport was the first airport in the MENA region to be awarded ISO-certification and is ranked as one of the best airports in the world. Attributing to its success is the advanced scanning technology and quick ramp transfer, leading to an accelerated shipping process. Hamad Sea Port offers more than 15 direct shipping lines and connects to 40 different ports.

This well-developed logistics infrastructure in the country offers opportunities to various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, electronic waste management, e-commerce, and high-value item storage. The market is mainly dominated by domestic players, but the presence of international players is expected to increase in the future as the country grows toward becoming a logistics hub. With the market growing steadily, the logistics companies in the country are continuously looking for expanding their network and infrastructure.
